The Opportunity

We're looking for a Buyer, working in the Engineering/Manufacturing industry in Grand Rapids, Michigan, United States.

  • Handles all operational and advanced procurement activities within the given sub-commodities while ensuring compliance with overall objectives, strategies and procedures.
  • Handles management of all suppliers within the commodity group.
  • Coordinates program procurement activities over specific Product Business Units to ensure excellent product launches.
  • Controls and approves of all Program Procurement activities specified in PDP and decisions in line with customer demands and category strategies.
  • Ensures smooth product launches by controlling the acquisition, sourcing on time, in line with cost book and VSR targets, maintaining procurement results until start of production.
  • Guarantees financial control over complex, modular programs from phase 0-5 and over lifetime.
  • Ensures the cost-quality and time-oriented supply of all required goods, materials, equipment’s and services under compliance with the respective business plans, budgets and targets.
  • Initiates and supports of proper Make or Buy decisions.
  • Initiates and supports MBBP Activities (incl. VA / VE and Kaizen activities.
  • Guarantees compliance with BOS, PDP and POS procedures.
  • Manages the suppliers within the given programs (Request for Quotes RFQ, change management, contract negotiations, payment queries, dispute resolutions etc.).

The pay range we are offering is 21 to 26 per hour. This position may present an opportunity to go permanent.

Experience Required for Your Success
  • Bachelor degree is required
  • 1-3 years of experience in procurement including buying and managing commodities is required
  • Ability to gather, relate and summarize information into logical conclusions is required
  • Strong interpersonal skills to interact with internal customers and suppliers is required
  • Highly motivated individual capable of handling multiple responsibilities is required
  • Demonstrated leadership, organization, planning, administration and team playing skills are required
  • Advanced computer skills with Microsoft Office Suite and the ability to use business systems software are required
  • Willingness to travel up to 10% is required
