Position Summary:

The Assistant Insurance Risk Manager supports the Vice President of Risk Management within the Insurance and Risk Management Department ("the Department"). This role is critical in managing and streamlining commercial property insurance claims, including handling investigations, documentation, and facilitating settlements with insurers. The position has direct ownership of responsibilities related to the company’s insurance database, policies, incidents/claims, safety, loss control, and other general functions. Additionally, it requires strong Microsoft Office skills and relational database expertise to support efficient data analysis and claims management, as well as effective communication with both internal and external stakeholders. The Assistant Insurance Risk Manager actively contributes to the development and enhancement of department programs, systems, processes, and procedures.

Main Job Responsibilities:

  • Commercial Property Claims Management: Lead the review and handling of commercial property insurance claims, coordinating detailed investigations, collecting supporting documentation, and liaising with insurers to ensure a timely and accurate settlement process.
  • Data Management: Maintain and analyze data within a largely paperless department using Wingate’s Risk Management Information System (RMIS) and related document repositories and data systems ("RM Records").
  • Data Integrity: Identify and resolve inconsistent, missing, or erroneous data within RM Records to ensure data quality and compliance.
  • Insurance Renewal Management: Oversee the day-to-day administration of assigned insurance renewals, including renewal applications, policy adjustments, and ensuring coverage meets company needs.
  • Insurance Policy Administration: Oversee the insurance policy life cycle, including placement, renewals, processing invoices, handling endorsements, and tracking certificates of insurance.
  • Point of Contact for Insurance Policies: Serve as the main resource for all insurance policies managed by Wingate, addressing inquiries and ensuring alignment with the company’s risk and insurance goals.
  • Safety and Loss Control: Lead Wingate’s safety initiatives in collaboration with the Wingate Safety Committee, coordinating with internal and external safety stakeholders to implement loss control strategies and resolve inspections and recommendations.
  • Client Transition Risk Management: Assess and manage risk and insurance needs during client transitions, ensuring all insurance placements and risk evaluations meet operational standards.
  • Incident Reporting and Claims Management: Oversee incident reporting, gather necessary documentation for claims, prepare insurer reports, and manage the claims through to resolution.
  • Customer Service Liaison: Act as a department representative in communication with internal and external parties, providing information on insurance policies, renewals, claims, loss control, and safety.
  • Special Projects: Complete strategic projects and other assignments to support departmental and company-wide risk management objectives.

Experience Required for Your Success

Essential Skills and Abilities:

  • Claims Handling Expertise: Experience with commercial property insurance claims, including investigation, documentation management, and effective communication with insurers.
  • Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills to effectively liaise between departments, clients, and external stakeholders.
  • Microsoft Office Proficiency: Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint), with an emphasis on Excel for data analysis and reporting.
  • Analytical Skills: Exceptional critical thinking and problem-solving skills to analyze claims data and resolve issues.
  • Organizational Skills: Detail-oriented with strong multitasking abilities, capable of managing competing deadlines.
  • Technological Aptitude: Familiarity with RMIS (QuickBase product) and experience with relational databases preferred.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in risk management or a related field preferred
  • Minimum of 4 years in a professional office setting, ideally within property management, commercial property/casualty insurance, or risk management
  • Strong background in commercial property insurance claims handling preferred
  • Extensive experience with Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel
